Veterinary Surgery in Greenville
Dependable Services You Can Trust
At Cleveland Park Greenville, we know from experience that any surgical procedure can be almost as stressful for the pet family as it is for the pet. Our well-trained and experienced staff will make sure you understand the diagnosis, procedure, and likely outcome of any surgical procedure our veterinarians recommend for your pet.
Our team can provide your pet with quality Greenville veterinary surgical services. Contact us today to get started.
Soft Tissue Surgery
Soft tissue surgery is any surgery not related to bones or joints. It ranges from routine elective procedures such as spays and neuters to more complicated procedures such as splenectomies, intestinal resection, and anastomosis from ingestion of a foreign body, bladder surgery, and cesarean sections.
Spaying & Neutering
Spaying is the surgical procedure that removes a female dog’s or cat’s ovaries and uterus. This procedure is very safe and will protect your pet from unwanted pregnancies. We recommend discussing the appropriate time to have this surgery performed on your pet with one of our veterinarians.
Neutering is the surgical procedure that removes a male dog’s testicles in order to prevent him from breeding. While this procedure will not change your pet’s personality, it can reduce dangerous or embarrassing behaviors related to breeding urges. Neutering can also help protect your pet from testicular cancer, prostate problems, and help decrease the number of unwanted pets in shelters. Again we recommend discussing the appropriate time to have your pet neutered with one of our doctors.
Offering the Highest Quality of Surgical Care
We require having pre-surgical blood work performed before administering general anesthesia. An intravenous catheter will be placed for the administration of IV fluids before, during, and after surgery. Your pet will be given intravenous sedatives, intubated, and placed on an anesthesia machine that delivers a combination of oxygen and gas anesthesia. One of our surgical assistants will start recording the patient's vital signs. These include heart rate, oxygen saturation, body temperature, and blood pressure. A continuous ECG reading is monitored. This recording is continued for the duration of the surgery until the patient is fully awake. A surgical prep is performed that includes clipping the surgical area and cleaning with a surgical scrub. The patient is then transferred into the surgical suite where a final prep is applied. Recovery is closely monitored until the patient is awake and is able to remain sitting or standing.
It is understandable that you may have concerns about your pet’s upcoming anesthesia and surgery. Our Greenville veterinary surgeons are always available to address any question you may have.
